I empower students to…
Know what’s coming
The ACT/SAT/ISEE tests are unlike anything students are doing or practicing in school. My strategies help students play the game by learning patterns, traps, and specific steps for specific question types.
Ask good questions
This is the most empowering learning tool for a student - no doubt. Asking insightful, problem-solving, self-reflective questions forces a student to look for answers, become aware of their own thought process, deepen their understanding, and in turn transforms their results.
Mind the mistakes
I get really clear on the root cause of my student’s mistake, and offer concrete ways to avoid the mistake in the future, whether that’s drilling a formula, annotating the question, or implementing a focus tool.
Stay committed
Showing up is step one. Showing up consistently is step two! Showing up as their best selves for their homework, for their sessions with me, for their practice tests and tests, for school, and beyond! In the end their success is in their hands!

I have tutored in New York City and the tri-state area for over 8 years, most of which was with an agency, which means I was trained on tutoring the ACT/SAT/ISEE and more, with proven strategies researched by a team of professional educators. I benefitted from learning from a community of tutors who shared ideas, tips, and solutions, and I’ve put it all into practice with over 250 students and counting!
Extensive Experience
I was always mimicking teachers when I was young, and even asked my parents for a chalkboard so I could teach my imaginary class. That drive paired with a natural ability to explain, engage, and coach undoubtedly translates to engaging and motivating sessions for my students. Teaching is not just a job for me, tutoring is not just a side hustle. This is a fulfilling passion.
A Passion for Teaching
Let’s find out how I can support your child
My students have gone on to Princeton, University of Pennsylvania, Georgetown, Cornell, Northwestern, Duke, Brown, and more.
Ambika is very uplifting and flexible. She helps target areas of difficulty and ensures that her methods “stick.”
— Alex, parent
“I'm at the higher end of the range for most of the schools I'm applying to! I just wanted to thank you so much for all of your help! It was great to work with you. You are an amazing tutor.”
— Lauren, student
“Working with Ambika was a game-changer for me. Her proven techniques helped me increase my SAT score substantially in a short period of time. I took the SAT only once and am at the top end of a range for most of the nation’s top colleges and university. I highly recommend Ambika because she will deliver results and boost your confidence.”
— Andrew, student
P.S. Have you heard? The new digital SAT arrived this spring! No more paper tests!
These days, students are juggling a lot! So to be a truly supportive partner in academics, I wear a few hats.
Teacher
Of course the most important! Help students master the material by explaining and drilling concepts, rules, and strategy in a way that sticks.
Coach
Guide students to their goals by providing a structure of accountability to get there. This can involve time management tools and executive functioning skills.
Mentor
I invite students to be open and honest about stress, outside pressures, and anything on their shoulders, so that we can address it then focus on the task at hand with more effectiveness.
